How to Transplant Lilacs

Lilacs are exceptionally easy to transplant. I have transplanted many lilac bushes from the original bushes that my grandmother planted on our Wisconsin dairy farm 70 years ago. Early spring until late spring, from when the lilacs develop buds until they actually have small leaves, is the leading time to transplant. If you have lilacs growing in your yard — or if you have a friend who has lilacs — and you would like to start some new lilac bushes, here’s how:

Lilacs are exceptionally easy to transplant. I have transplanted many lilac bushes from the original bushes that my grandmother planted on our Wisconsin dairy farm 70 years ago. Early spring until late spring, from when the lilacs develop buds until they actually have small leaves, is the optimum time to transplant. If you have lilacs growing in your yard — or if you have a friend who has lilacs — and you would like to start some new lilac bushes, here’s how:

1. Decide where you want to transplant the lilac bush or bushes.

2. Dig a hole that’s about one foot deep by one foot across for each bush you want to transplant.

3. Dig up a lilac shoot from somewhere around the head bush. Lilacs spread by runners. Use a shovel to dig up the shoot because you are going to have to cut off the runner, and a trowel will not be tough enough to do the job. Choose a shoot that is approximately 8 to 14 inches high. Smaller shoots that are only a few inches high will take a very long time to mature to the point where they will have flowers. Larger shoots seem to take a longer time to recover from being transplanted before they start to grow well. Do not worry about how much root you are getting with the shoot. You will not be able to take all of the root since the roots are all connected.

4. Put the shoot in a bucket of water if you are not going to transplant it immediately so that it will not dry out. If you are going to transplant it immediately, carry it to the hole you have dug and set it in the hole.

5. Center the shoot in the hole and fill in with dirt. Leave a three or four inch depression around the shoot so you will have a reservoir for water.

6. Water your new lilac bush with a couple of gallons of water. Continue watering the bush several times a week for the rest of the season to ensure that it has a good start. From what I have observed, lilacs seem to be quite drought resistant, although like any plant, tree or bush, they will grow fresh if they have plenty of water. In subsequent years, water your new lilac bush from time to time, especially if rain is in short supply.

Note: I have noticed that it takes 4 or 5 years for the new bushes to grow enough to start producing flowers, although bushes that I transplanted from small shoots only a few inches high are taking longer than that.

How to Develop a Powerful Linking Strategy to Dominate the Search Engines

Filed under: Flowers — Administrator @ 5:44 pm

Abstract: Cheap Flower

Simply put, a reciprocal linking strategy is just exchanging links with another website to increase both of the website’s PR rating.

In putting together a reciprocal linking strategy the first thing that you want to do is look at your list of keywords and pick out the most general, widely searched keywords that relate to your site as possible.

For example, if your site was on growing sunflowers, your keywords would probably be a little major niche specific such as “growing sunflowers”, “how to grow sunflowers”, “growing sunflowers in the USA”, and so on.

However, for the purposes of reciprocal linking and finding prospective sites you can trade links with, you’d also want to include general keywords that are related to your website such as “gardening”, or “sunflowers”.

The cumulative list of your specific and general keywords will be the keywords that you want to use to try and find potential linking partners.

If you want to see exactly how popular your keywords are (the number of times that they are searched in a month), or to get some extra keyword ideas, check out the Overture Search Suggestion Tool (http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/) or Wordtracker (http://www.wordtracker.com).

Both of these websites will show you how often your keywords have been searched and will also give you a few other ideas for keywords.

Now, grab your list of keywords and open up your web browser.

Head over to Google and type in “[insert your keyword here] submit link”.

Be sure to replace the [insert your keyword here] part with your keyword, and make sure you actually have quotation marks around the whole phrase you see above. Using quotation marks gives you major exact search results.

This will bring up a list of pages that are related to your keyword, where you can submit your website’s url.

Be sure to have the Google Toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com/) installed in your browser to check the site’s PR value.

Now, go ahead and click on the first few sites that come up under your search term and check the PR value that the Google Toolbar gives them.

What often happens with a search like this one, is that the pages returned by the search engine are the actual pages having a form where you can submit your url to their site.

Now submit your website’s url to these sites, then try other variations of your Google search such as “keyword submit link” without the quotation marks, or try something like “keyword submit a link”.

Once you have added your website’s url to as many sites as you can at Google, do the same thing at the other major search engines, such as Yahoo, Msn and so on.

Be sure to keep track of the different sites that you have submitted your website’s url to.

Now, while this is the cheapest way to get some backlinks, it can take up quite a bit of your time, and it doesn’t guarantee that you will be able to find sites with a high PR to submit your url to.

Many of these sites will want you to provide a link to their site on your website in exchange for your url being listed on their site, so you’ll have to build a links page and add their url to it.

Real Men Love Flowers And Poetry?

Filed under: Flowers — Administrator @ 5:43 am

Abstract: Flower Online

I find myself taking pictures of the flowers out back fairly often. As my friends know, I’m an enthusiastic amateur photographer and the flowers are a great subject. Besides that, they’re beautiful in their own right. And, in the warmer months, with the stinging multitude flying around that garden rectangle, well, you half take your life in your hands going back there.

At any rate, it occurs to me that it’s not considered, by many, to be too terribly masculine to have too much interest in flowers. This view, of course, like so many widely held views, is stupid. After all, why should possession of an aesthetic sense have anything to do with your manhood level? Really, the question I want people to ask themselves is why should this view exist. Does it make any sense? Why shouldn’t a man appreciate flowers? Well, I’m talking about headstream opinions, and, you know, the centralstream tends to be, um, retarded.

So, this gets me to thinking about other general opinions in respect to the male gender role. Example: tea is considered by many to be somewhat effeminate. Just how was this conclusion reached? Folks, it’s a beverage. Apparently, coffee is the way to go. Well, fine and dandy. Poetry, of course, has some pretty widely held stereotypes and associations. Why should that be? Who knows.

Cats? A guy is seen by many as a little peculiar if he likes cats. Dogs = man’s greatest friend. It is generally considered pretty masculine for a group of guys to be sitting around with a case of Coors watching a football game. It just so happens that this type of activity sometimes leads one to the corner of Obesity Avenue and Impotence Lane: and, those things aren’t so manly. I don’t know. Cats, tea, poetry, flowers. an interest or love or passion for these things seems to make your manhood questionable. Okay, you win. When does hunting season start? I’m going to get my buck this year!

So, those are my thoughts on poems, flowers, tea and cats, and if you find this interesting, please visit the “>http://www.artplop.com> Creative Expression Forum and Flower Pot

Choosing The Perfect Flowers For Summer

Filed under: Flowers — Administrator @ 12:43 pm

Abstract: Vonetta Flower
Tag:

Summer flowers and bedding plants are a great way to instantly
add color to your lawn. Summer flowers start appearing in garden
centers in the early spring, but you should be careful to plant
only after the danger of freezing weather has passed. Summer
flowers produce the inimitable results when purchased ready to plant
rather than trying to grow them yourself from seeds. Selecting
the right summer flowers for your area can be quite a task,
especially if you are planting your first flower garden. Here
are some suggestions as to which flowering plants may be right
for your situation:

If your flowerbed is in direct sunlight for the majority of the
day, you will want to choose a hardy, heat-resistant plant. Some
of the better choices for full sun are marigolds, zinnias,
petunias, and zinnia. Be careful to choose a variety of
heat-resistant plants, as some of these full-sun varieties are
prone to diseases, especially marigolds. You will want several
types of flowers in your flowerbed not only for contrast and
interest, but in the event that one variety does poorly or
becomes diseased, you can simply pull the plants (roots and all)
and cultivate your refundamentaling varieties. Keep in mind that if any
of your plants are diseased, you should pull them immediately to
avoid spreading the disease to your other plants.

For areas that are in partial to full shade, consider impatiens,
begonias, and vinca. All of these come in a variety of colors
and grow quite well in shady areas. In choosing the colors for
your flowering plants, remember that red colors make the plant
seem closer and larger, while blue will give the illusion of
smallness and distance. Planting a single color of flowers will
draw greater attention to your flowerbed, but if you want several
colors make sure the flowers compliment one another. Purple goes
well with pink and white will blend in nicely with any other
color. Also, red goes very well with violet as odd as this may
seem.

The most important thing you can do to ensure beautiful summer
flowers is to prepare your flowerbed appropriately before
planting. Till the soil thoroughly and remove any weeds, roots
and all. Fertilize your flowerbed before planting and for the
first month after planting flowers, water every other day so
that the roots of the plants will be properly nourished. Use
mulch as a covering in your flowerbed to preserve moisture and
do not over-feed your flowers. Use fertilizer exactly as
directed on the package and avoid getting the fertilizer
directly on the parts of the plant that are above the ground.

Personal Happiness: A Personal Responsibility

Abstract: Same Day Flower Delivery

Unhappiness can be like a chronic cough, an early symptom of a extended serious condition. Most people are either unwilling or unable to face up to the fact that theres some problem eating them up enough to cause chronic misery.
I always hear people say that theyre just not happy in their jobs, marriages or relationships. But most are unwilling to accept their portion of the blame. When it comes to how happy or unhappy you are, youre the boss! No one is going to work as hard as you can to insure your personal happiness. Unhappiness can be like a chronic cough, an early symptom of a increased serious condition. Most people are either unwilling or unable to face up to the fact that theres some problem eating them up enough to cause chronic misery. Like any other disease, this kind of unhappiness requires treatment.

Most of us let circumstances beyond our control rule our lives. People can only make you feel as miserable as you allow them to. More then a few of us have made bad decisions about whom we associate with. Each year a friend of mine visits her mother. She doesnt get along with the woman and, from all available evidence, her mother shows virtually no interest in her. Yet she constantly seeks acceptance and tries to establish a mother-daughter relationship that will likely never exist between the two. Trying to repair a relationship that was bad to begin with is an exercise in futility. By the same token, the worst thing anyone can do is dwell on how the misdeeds of others have affected their life.

People will do selfish and foolish things and sometimes life just seems very unfair, but the worst damage that anyone can do to you is what you allow them to. You may end up broke because a business partner cheats you or divorced because your mate did you wrong, but why spend the rest of your life paying for their mistake? Happiness is a personal choice and life is ours for the living. The only one who can really ruin your life is you.

More then a few people have told me over the years that the romance has gone out of their marriage or relationship. They cry about not getting flowers, being ignored, not taken out enough or say that their mate is just not spontaneous. Well, Ill give you the flowers thing! Any guy that doesnt bring home flowers at least once a month probably needs a personality transplant. But thats not to say that we shouldnt look at both sides of the coin.

What you put into a relationship is what you get out of it. If you want spontaneity from your mate, then be a little spontaneous yourself! Surprise them with a romantic evening in or out. You may not be the only one who is unhappy. Sometimes people get caught in a rut or feel a little down. The idea is to help prop each other up when its needed. If your honey forgets to deliver the goods (flowers, candy, gifts orwellyou know!), leave a little card with a picture of flowers, candy, gifts or yourself au natural, laying around for them to see with the caption, Did you forget something?

If your boss or supervisor seems to be trying to win the Dictator of the Century award, just take it in stride. Your responsibility to your job is limited to its description. If you feel their behavior is over the top, it might be time for a gentle reminder that being the boss doesnt mean they have to be overly-bossy. If a sit down wont work, leave a copy of The Godfather book on their desk. No, dont include a little plastic horse with the head popped off! Thats just not nice. You can also try some of those silly theme gifts that say things like LIGHTEN UP!

Most people that are workplace tyrants either go up, down or out in a reasonably short period of time. Youre probably not the only one that thinks theyre a real pain the neck to deal with. People above them and those who have to do business with them will eventually tire of their bossy ways. If the person in question happens to own the company, then maybe its time for you to move on. I firmly believe that people should never consign themselves to be anyones whipping post.

Single people can sometimes get frustrated by dating choices or a string of relationships that didnt go anywhere. If this is you, maybe its time for some soul searching. Most people have preconceived notions about who they should date. These notions might keep them from finding the true love of their life. Even wedded bliss doesnt solve all relationship problems, and actually may create some new ones.

All Newlyweds often go through a tough adjustment period. Going from living by yourself to spending 24/7 with another person is no easy adjustment. Instead of juggling one schedule, youre now responsible for two. Mealtimes, work schedules and other considerations have to be mutually acceptable. For a time, it may all seem impossible to handle, but things usually fall into place when couples work together for the common good.

A willingness to be flexible and accept a new way of life is essential if any marriage is to succeed. If you feel put upon and find that your mate is unwilling to share their part of the give of any relationship, it might be some time for marriage counseling. When a problem is one that is shared by or affects major then one person, its all the larger important to make an attempt at solving it as soon as possible.

If marriage puts pressure on people, divorce doubles it. A recent survey indicated that most people who get divorced are as unhappy or extra unhappy then they were while still married. This isnt a values judgment on divorce, but rather an indicator that it may not be the cure-all people think it is. There are times when a relationship is worth saving. That decision is one that only you can make. But any relationship decision is sure to be a serious one, so think and consider carefully before you act. Theres no harm in seeking advice or even professional help, as long as its competent. Before you choose a marriage counselor or divorce advisor/referee, ask for references and find out how successful theyve been at helping people.

The biggest obstacle to most peoples personal happiness is that they do not plan to be happy. They float through life giving in to the ebb and flow of events around them, becoming never-ending victims of circumstance. If thats you, its time to step up and plan your moves in advance with a thought to avoiding situations likely to cause you grief. This may require a period of reflection, and self-examination is never a particularly fun event. But looking at where your life is now, can help you move it to a better place later. This doesnt mean we should walk away from responsibilities that have already been committed to, but rather find ways to work in positive things that bring us joy. Its true that into every life some rain must fall, but theres nothing wrong with having an umbrella handy when it does!
