Have an Emotionally Intelligent Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is coming. I’m always reminded of the year I left a card shop after choosing cards, worrying if I was spending too much or too little, thinking of Valentines in the past I should and should not have gotten, mourning the fact I had no “honey” that year, being mad at the Madison Avenue thrust, and worrying if I’d done a good job for those I loved and wanted to remember . and the card store owner called out to me, “Be careful out there Susan. There are a lot of angry lovers on the road today.”
It’s an emotional time. Make it an emotionally intelligent time.

1. Check in with your intentions.
Do you intend to let things upset you? Do you intend to compare your gift with what somewhat else gets? Do you intend to feel disappointed because nothing’s good enough for you? Do you intend to enjoy your day?

2. Use your empathy in your gift-giving.
If you wish to remember someone with love, think and feel what love might mean to that person, not to you. It could be a power tool, a poem you write, spending nothing because your budget’s busted, an evening out together, something quite gushy or something not gushy at all.

3. Be self-forgiving and other-forgiving.
It doesn’t have to be a perfect Valentine’s Day, just “good enough.” We don’t always get it right, and nobody’s perfect. Be willing to be pleased.

4. Emotional self-expression.
Are you assuming someone’s going to read your mind, or are you willing to ask for what you want and need?

5. Emotional acceptance and management.
All emotions are welcome, because our emotions don’t know what’s “justified” and what isn’t. Be willing to experience the different emotions you have, because to deny one (sadness, anger) is to deny the rest of them, the ones we enjoy so much, like joy and delight. If you’re sad, lonely, or disappointed, try to let it just move through you and don’t trap it. It will pass and things will change. They always do.

6. Intuition.
Intuition will serve you better than using analysis and reason to figure out what someone wants! If you kind of sit back and float a picture in your mind, it will probably come to you what she or he would like. Or think about it just before you fall asleep at night. Sometimes the idea will pop into your mind in the morning.

7. Focus.
When the emotions are pitching around, remember to put on the “blinders” and stay focused on your tasks. It can even be a balm!

8. Plan ahead.
Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year. Do you want to celebrate the weekend before? Many will. If you plan to celebrate on a Saturday night, that means Valentine’s Day “really” comes on the 10th of February. If you’re sending flowers (always a favorite with the ladies), you should have placed your order by February 8th.

9. Use your creativity.
Great Valentine remembrances can cost a fortune, or nothing at all. Let your imagination soar and you’ll come up with something without busting your budget and feeling guilty.

10. Be organized.
Set your budget. Make a list of people you want to remember. Start listing ideas. Remember there are lots of merchants out there who want to make it easy for you — use the phone, use the Internet. On the other hand, merchants will be ready with all the last-minute “deals” and we’ll be deluged with email ads. In that case you have to be organized about not getting confused, but you will have lots of last-minute opportunity and may even come out better.

If you need someone to talk to, or ideas for gifts, activities, etc. try a professional life coach or certified EQ coach. A quick phone call can be incollectible at this time.
Most of all, it’s your Valentine’s Day. Have it your way!

Take the Expense out of Your Easter Celebration

Filed under: Flowers — Administrator @ 9:33 am

Abstract: Flower Bulb

The Easter celebration can be expensive, but it doesnt have to be. Here are some ideas to help you simplify and replace the commercial aspects of the holiday with activities that are likewise in keeping with the spirit of the season.

* Do some research on how Easter is celebrated in other cultures. Turn your celebration into a learning experience by enjoying traditional Easter foods and activities from another country.
* Instead of buying greeting cards, make your own. Use your computers desktop publishing program or crayons, markers and construction paper to make personalized Easter cards for friends and relatives.
* If you buy gifts for the childrens Easter baskets, use moderation. Select one item each child will truly enjoy and supplement with inexpensive filler items. If you usually buy a new Easter basket or bucket each year, choose a smaller one this year that will require fewer items to fill.
* Instead of buying decorations, choose a few craft projects to do together as a family. Do an Internet search or check out books from the library for ideas. Use your completed projects to decorate your home for your family celebration.
* If you use flowers as part of your celebration, keep arrangements simple. A modest corsage or arrangement of flowers from your own garden is much increased meaningful than an expensive purchase from the floral shop.
* Instead of spending a great deal of money on chocolate and prepackaged candy, make homemade cookies and other sweets to be enjoyed as part of your celebration. Your kids will enjoy making and decorating these goodies together as a family.
* If receiving new clothes is part of your family tradition, consider sewing them by hand to save money. If making an outfit is too big of an undertaking, consider making one special accessory like a hair bow, tie, sash or piece of simple jewelry to adorn an outfit you already have.
* Rather than serving an elaborate meal with all the trimmings, consider serving a modest meal and donating the extra money you would have spent to an organization that feeds the hungry.

Before You Buy Hoodia Cactus Seeds

Filed under: Flowers — Administrator @ 1:17 am

Abstract: Order Flower Online

Before you buy hoodia seeds, which are being sold on e-bay and other places around the internet, you might want to ask yourself a couple of questions. First, why do you want to grow hoodia?

Hoodia gordonii is an increasingly popular appetite suppressant and has received lots of media attention. Hoodia plants, hoodia products and even hoodia seeds are being sold on e-bay and all over the internet. If you are considering buying hoodia cactus seeds, there are some things that you should know.

Hoodia is a group of succulent plants that grows throughout southern Africa. Hoodia gordonii is just one species in that group. All together, there are at least fifteen different species of hoodia. If you are buying hoodia seeds because you want an interesting plant to add to your collection, then go ahead. If you are an experienced horticulturist then you may have success. They are difficult to grow.

Collecting hoodia cactus seeds from wild hoodia plants in Africa is illegal in most countries. Botswana, South Africa and Namibia requested that all species be protected by CITES, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. These countries were concerned that the popularity of hoodia gordonii as an appetite suppressant could threaten the hoodia population. Growing hoodia, trading hoodia and selling hoodia seeds or plants requires special permits. But, if you really want to try to grow your own plant, consider these facts.

It is necessary to grow hoodia gordonii from seeds, cuttings almost never take root. Hoodia cactus seeds must be germinated in a seed tray and it takes about a year before they can be transferred to a small pot. In three or four years your hoodia seeds will bloom. The blooms smell like rotten meat. Francis Masson, a botanist who sailed to southern Africa with James Cook called them “carrion flowers”, because of this smell. The smell is probably enough to suppress anyone’s appetite. Probably the reason for this smell is that hoodia is one of the few plants in the world that is pollinated by flies. The sweet smell of most flowers attracts bees, the rotting meat smell would (one would assume) attract flies. In a couple of months, your plant will form seed pods that resemble miniature antelope horns which earned it the Afrikaans name of bokhorrings. So, if you have a good greenhouse (hoodia gordonii plants thrive at very high temperatures), and you buy some hoodia cactus seeds now, then in about four years, you can sell hoodia seeds on e-bay.
